K's Bento-Ya is a small, no-frills sushi restaurant and bento spot tucked into the neighborhood of Waipahu, serving up simple, satisfying meals that feel like comfort food for locals and visitors alike. It’s the kind of place you drop by for an early breakfast or lunch before heading out to the beach, park, or just to grab a quick, familiar bite.

The atmosphere is straightforward and bustling in the mornings, with a steady flow of people coming in right after opening hours. There isn’t much seating to linger over; this is fundamentally a grab-and-go kind of spot where bentos, musubi, and sushi rolls are made fresh and sold until they’re gone for the day. Plan to arrive early if you want the full range of options, especially items like the shrimp musubi, which tends to sell out first.

Menu highlights include classics like spam musubi, hot dog musubi, and various sushi rolls alongside generous bento boxes featuring items such as chicken and hot dogs. The chicken bento in particular stands out for its simple, home-style flavor that locals return for time and again. With a price point that clearly fits a casual budget, K’s Bento-Ya carries the feel of a traditional mom-and-pop eatery that’s been part of Waipahu’s rhythm for decades.

Practical details like limited parking right in front and cash-only payments remind you this is a place grounded in local tradition rather than tourist spots. Ordering ahead is an option for those who want to make sure they secure their favorite bentos before the daily sellout. The early hours and quick turnover make it a reliable stop for those who want a nostalgic taste of Hawaii’s bento culture without fuss.

This spot feels especially suited for families, workers, and anyone wanting a straightforward, no-pretense meal that echoes longtime neighborhood flavors. If you’re heading out for a day around Oahu’s North Shore or just exploring Waipahu, K’s Bento-Ya offers a real slice of local life through its well-loved bentos and sushi treats.

Small but perfect place to get food from. Must hit up spot before going to the beach or the park. It's a simple bento, but the chicken is delicious, nice comfort food. My family really enjoys it. So much so that we we go there before they are open while they are still cooking the chicken. Definitely recommend!!

Its been 2 decades. I remember when we used to have money and I could get a Bento from there for my field trip. It meant no sack lunch and pure happiness at lunch. I'm glad they're still around for new generations to have hopefully the same good memories as I did.

One of the old school mom and pop take out bento places in Waipahu, open early and closes when they sell out. Cash only, I arrived too late to grab the bento with the shrimp so settled for the chicken, hotdog and musubi bento Still good as I remember from years ago, go support local 5 stars

Stopped on our way to the North Shore this morning. Arrived at 7:45 AM and there were already lots of people going in and out. They only had 1 bento ($8) option to choose from, as well as a roll option ($7).we all really enjoyed the bento! So so good. Reminded me of my childhood in Japan. Simple, yet created with love.

Few parking spots right in front of the store. Large bento ($13)or small bento. They had spam musubi ($3), some maki sushi rolls and cone sushi. You can order ahead. Open til sold-out.

Fast and Friendly Services. Food Portions are huge and tasty. Various types of hand Sushi Rolls. I remembering going to K's Bento-ya as child ,when I went on school excursions growing up in Hawaii. It was my favorite place to go to.

You do need to go there early in the AM. They do run out before closing. Sometimes if you know what you want it is best to order ahead of time. My husband loves the chicken and oshi sushi. They do mix the type of sushi (rice) with either musubi, maki or/and oshi. The bento comes in two sizes. Check out their website for choices.
